Kiln Hire

What kiln firing services do you offer?

We offer kiln firing for your ceramic pieces, including bisque firing and glaze firing. Most ceramic pieces need to be fired twice: once for the bisque firing and once after glazing.

How do I book a firing?

Please contact me with photos, approximate sizes, and a description of your pieces. I’ll confirm pricing and let you know when you can drop them off.

Please use the form bellow or email us at jason@thekiln.shop.

What are your standard firing prices?

charge per person/drop-off $10
Full kiln hire, both firings included $60–$80
Full kiln hire, one firing only $30–$40
Please ask for more details if needed

Are prices for one firing or both firings?

The listed prices include both bisque and glaze firing, unless otherwise stated.

What clay can I bring?

Please only bring clay that is suitable for the firing temperature being used (Cone 6). You’ll need to let us know what clay body you have used before firing.

All glaze firing needs to have test tiles provided if using external glazes.

What glaze can I use?

Please make sure your glaze is suitable for the clay and firing temperature (Cone 6). If you’re unsure, let me know what glaze you’ve used before dropping off your pieces.

What happens if my piece breaks or the glaze runs?

Kiln firing always carries some risk. Pieces can crack, break, warp, blister, or have glaze issues during firing. While I’ll handle and load everything carefully, I can’t guarantee the final result or take responsibility for issues caused by clay, construction, glaze, trapped air, moisture, or unknown materials.

How long does firing take?

Turnaround time depends on kiln availability and how full the kiln is. I’ll give you an estimated collection time when you drop off your pieces. (A rough Esstimate is between 2-4 weeks.)
